ABOUT
Hey there! I’m Sara.
I’m the voice, author & creator behind Trailing Places. What started out as an idea, has grown into a new adventure!
I’m a geospatial professional living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with my family of five and our four-footed friends. Trailing Places is a website dedicated to the history of the people, places & culture that have shaped our region.
We are not makers of history. We are made by history.
Martin Luther King Jr.
In this space, I share how my family makes history come alive and takes the road less traveled as we connect shared memories to places – we hope you do too! My goal is to inspire you to explore our region.
- Walk along the paths of history
- Follow the footsteps of founding fathers
- Tour birthplaces of famous residents
- Learn the culture of our local communities
- Experience neighborhoods that make our region unique
- Listen to the songs of nature
But more importantly, enjoy the journey from the past to the present, make memories & create your own map.
Maps show us not only what is where and how to get there. But also who we were – and perhaps, who we’re going to be.

A Pittsburgh native, I have lived and worked across the state and are proud to call this place our home. As a homegrown girl, I started planning day trips around Pittsburgh that I could easily share with my wildlings (three are human!). I look for opportunities when we’re running weekend errands, visiting friends across town or on a family staycation. A few of my favorite non-history or geography related things are coffee, technology, farmer’s markets and antique postcards. Our footprint is small, work and school keep our calendar booked throughout the week, but once the weekend arrives, we welcome the joy of new places – which usually includes a map, something to make and plenty of mud (even if we are visiting a museum). The muddier the adventure the better, my washing machine knows no fear!
